BOONSBORO – Jadon King got his just deserts on Friday.
The Boonsboro back got his cake, but he just didn’t eat it too.
He devoured it.
King celebrated his birthday like – well – a king on Friday by scoring four touchdowns in the first half to lead the Warriors to dominate 42-7 win over Brunswick.
And when he crossed the goal line, the Boonsboro fans started serenading with renditions of “Happy Birthday.”
“This was my birthday,” King admitted with a grin during his postgame interview. “As soon as we’re done after this, I’m going to eat some cake.”
All this was just icing on that cake. Boonsboro controlled the game from the very first play and didn’t let up.
King scored on runs of 6 and 7 yards after fumbling the ball in the first quarter and added 40-yard score and capped with a 33-yard juggling catch-and-run for his final score as the Warriors (2-1) scored all their points in the first half.
The second half was played with a running clock, due to Boonsboro’s 35-point lead. King, playing only the first half, finished with six carries for 59 yards and three TDs rushing and added the one catch for 33 yards and the fourth score – 92 yards on seven touches.
“My teammates are beautiful,” King said. “They execute so well and that allows me to make those plays. It’s a lot of hard work. All the hard work we put in is just for these moments.”
“My line is so great. Every time after practice, I have to go and thank them. Where would I be if it wasn’t for them?”
Boonsboro may have blown out Brunswick’s candle on the first play of the game.
The Warriors took the opening kickoff, starting on their own 41. Off the first snap, quarterback Blake Main found Parker DeBaugh zipping down the right hash marks and hit him with a 36-yard pass play to get to Brunswick’s 29 to get King’s party started.
“I told the guys in our pregame meeting … I said ‘I think I’m going to take a shot on the first play of the game,’” Boonsboro coach Mark Wadel said. “They were all excited. So, I said ‘Sure, why not.’ Blake made a great pass with a really nice catch by Parker on the edge and then things just kind of kept rolling for us.”
With the Railroaders (0-3) on their heels, Boonsboro needed six more plays to cover the final 29 yards, capped by King’s 6-yard run for a 7-0 run with 9:31 remaining in the first quarter.
All the momentum was automatically on the Warriors’ side.
“It definitely upped our body language,” said Main, who hit on seven of nine passes for 146 yards and two TDS in the first half. “It’s hard on a defense for Brunswick – when that play happens on the first play – to fight back.”
King got his second score – and second birthday chorus – with the 7-yards score that began by fumbling the ball at the 10. He scooped it up and found an opening up the middle to get into the end zone for a 13-0 lead.

Boonsboro scored twice on consecutive plays in the second quarter.
Main went over the top to find Edward Boakye at the Brunswick 8 enroute to a 38-yard TD grab on the first play of the second quarter.
Brunswick fumbled away the ensuing kickoff and DeBaugh cashed in immediately with a 40-yard sweep he cut back on to make it 29-0 with 11:38 remaining in the half.
King scored on a run up the middle for a 40-yard TD to make it 35-0 with 6:37 left in the half.
Brunswick put the ensuing drive together, moving 78 yard in seven plays, capped by a 24-yard scoring strike from quarterback Brady Renn to Austin Del Blazo to make it 35-7
King capped the birthday bash after Boonsboro took the ball over on downs at the Railroaders 48 with 1:38 remaining in the half.
On the third play, a first-and-10 from the 33, Main fired a pass over the middle to King, which was slightly deflected. King needed two tries to secure the ball down by his ankles and reeled it in for the 33-yard score and the 42-7 halftime lead.
Boonsboro unofficially finishes with 400 yards of offense, which Brunswick managed just 83 and only four first downs, all in the first half.
Next stop for Boonsboro is a trip to Catoctin, for what’s been traditionally a tight, physical battle.
“Right now, we’re feeling pretty good,” Wadel said. “Two back-to-back wins. We had a real tough opponent in Week 1 in Middletown and won these two and executed very well in both games to get momentum going.”
