BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT – The Blue Ridge Summit Free Library held its 49th annual Ice Cream Social and Book Sale on Saturday, July 19. The event took place on the library grounds from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., serving as the primary fundraiser to support the maintenance and safety of the historic 1891 building.
Attendees browsed through more than 4,000 books for adults, teens and children, while also shopping for library merchandise such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies and jackets at special discounts. A “Christmas in July” sale offered cash-and-carry holiday items for the first time.
The morning began with the Whistle 5K Fun Run and Dog Walk at 8 a.m., followed by live music from the Wayne Band at 9 a.m. Bruce and Pam Rowland led interactive songs and activities for children at 10:30 a.m. The noon hour featured the presentation of the Harvey Bridgers Award, while singer-songwriter Rich Fehle provided music throughout the day.
Additional attractions included ice cream from Sarah’s Creamery, a bake sale, food and drinks, face painting, a white elephant sale, silent auction and local artists and exhibitors. Children enjoyed fire truck rides provided by the Blue Ridge Fire Company and joined in a variety of activities on the library lawn.
Proceeds from the successful event benefited important repairs and improvements for the cherished community library.
