HARRISBURG – State Rep. Rich Irvin (R-Franklin/Huntingdon) announced two upcoming license plate replacement events for residents with damaged or hard-to-read plates in Huntingdon and Shippensburg. The first event is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Smithfield Fire Hall in Huntingdon. Irvin will partner with Huntingdon County Sheriff Jeff Leonard for this event. HARRISBURG- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the northbound Interstate 81 Welcome Center, located about a mile north of the Maryland state line in Franklin County, will be closed this Thursday, August 1, so a backup generator can be installed at the facility.  The Welcome Center is expected to be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. this Thursday.  The next available rest area on northbound I-81 is located just north of Exit 37 (Route 233/Newville). Waynesboro — Fellow Rotarian Stephen Bui provided an update about the “Hope to Walk” project that provides prosthetic legs to folks in underdeveloped countries. Stephen is diligently working on a Rotary International Global grant that would provide prosthetic legs for 300 people. He has made ongoing contact with the Saigon Rotary (Ho Chi Minh City) Club and hopes they will provide continuing support of the project.
