CHAMBERSBURG – Franklin County Commissioners honored the service, courage, sacrifice and patriotism of the county’s 10,804 veterans by formally proclaiming Nov. 11, to be Veterans Day in Franklin County.

“We all owe a deep dept of gratitude to the men and women who have selflessly served in the American armed forces, defending our freedoms and safeguarding our way of life,” said Franklin County Commissioner Chairman Dean Horst.

The proclamation draws attention to the courage legions of veterans have displayed in facing foreign adversaries as well as the wartime hardships they have endured with unwavering resolve. The resilience of these veterans has not only inspired generations of men and women to join the armed forces but has strengthened the fabric of American communities for nearly 250 years. Veterans Day also gives a nod to the sacrifices made by veterans’ families and loved ones in support of their mission to serve and defend their country.

According to 2023 U.S. Census data, there are 15.8 million veterans in the U.S. Pennsylvania is home to nearly 700,000 veterans, the fourth-largest veteran population in the country; 10,804 of those veterans live in Franklin County.

By recognizing Veterans Day, the commissioners are calling upon all residents to honor and servicemen and women and reflect on their sacrifice and service to the United States.
