CHAMBERSBURG—The Franklin County Commissioners are providing support to the Shippensburg Community Parks and Recreation Authority’s plan to expand the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail into Franklin County. The commissioners recently approved $45,000 in funding from Act 13 Marcellus Shale impact fees for the project, which will include the construction of a trail between Orrstown Road and Clifton Road in Shippensburg Borough. The project also includes creating a parking lot at the Orrstown Road terminus; installing Clifton Road trailhead amenities such as an access gate, bollards and concrete apron; and painting shared lane markings at Clifton and Roxbury roads. GETTYSBURG—Gettysburg National Military Park has announced the closure of Devil’s Den for rehabilitation work beginning Monday, March 21. This project is necessary due to significant erosion along existing walkways and unauthorized social trails that have created safety hazards. The scope of the project will reestablish, preserve, and protect the features that make up this segment of the battlefield landscape. These improvements will allow visitors to better immerse themselves into the historic landscape that is essential to understanding the three-day Battle of Gettysburg. Shippensburg wrestler wins D2 All-American honors ST. LOUIS — Shippensburg University’s Tyshawn White (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) capped off a phenomenal season on Saturday with a third-place finish at 125 pounds at the 2022 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships, earning All-America honors in action at St. Louis. White is the first Raider to earn All-America honors at 125 pounds since Chris Kochinsky placed fourth in 2011 and the highest-placing Raider All-American at 125 pounds in 16 years, since Jamie Thomas was the 2006 runner-up. Nancy Heishman was introduced as the new treasurer and blocks for the President’s Quilt were discussed.
