We finally got a chance to stop in and try Avocado Cafe in Chambersburg. They are located at 1048 Lincoln Way East (behind MedExpress). Not a large dining area, but clean and well-illuminated. We seated ourselves. No server. Order from the menu at the register. We tried the shrimp quesadilla—cheddar and Monterey jack cheese, tomatoes, onions and jalapenos, with a side of salsa and sour cream. Came out crispy and hot. Cheese was melted perfectly and the jalapenos gave it that extra kick that we like. We also ordered the Cap Cana Panini—ham, provolone cheese, avocado, mayo, roasted red pepper and…
CHAMBERSBURG—The Franklin County Commissioners will host a tire collection event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 8 at the former Franklin County Jail, 625 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg. Staff from the county’s Planning Department, under its mosquito and tick-borne disease control program, and All Cleaned Out Junk Removal are coordinating the event. Currently, strict guidelines and fees act to hinder some individuals’ ability to properly dispose of scrap tires. Often old tires are discarded and remain unused on properties until the resident has the time or the means for proper disposal. In the meantime, these tires can fill with…
HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania Acting Insurance Commissioner Michael Humphreys has announced approval of a loss-cost filing, including a 6.25 percent reduction in loss costs. Loss-costs are a component in determining workers’ comp insurance rates paid by businesses, and this reduction should lead to lower premiums for many Pennsylvania businesses. This loss-cost revision was filed by the Pennsylvania Compensation Rating Bureau (PCRB), an independent bureau that makes filings to the Insurance Department on behalf of companies that write workers’ compensation insurance in Pennsylvania. Workers’ compensation insurance covers the cost of medical care and rehabilitation for injured workers, lost wages and death benefits for…

Could that someone be you? Jasper came into the shelter as a stray and we think he’s a 3-year-old terrier mix. He was a little unsure about the situation when he first came into the shelter, but with a some extra treats…

CHAMBERSBURG—The Franklin County Commissioners have declared April 3-9, 2022, to be Franklin County Public Library Week and are urging residents to connect with their local libraries by taking advantage of the services and resources available through libraries in their communities. While the word ‘library’ may conjure images of a large building filled with rows of books and reference materials, libraries are much more than just book repositories. Libraries serve as valuable pillars of communities and are symbols of democracy, promoting the free exchange of ideas and information as well as personal growth and life-long learning. The American Library Association estimates…
