WAYNESBORO—The United Way of Franklin County PA and The United Way of Washington County MD are uniting to fight food insecurity in Franklin and Washington counties through a fundraising challenge. The communities have been challenged to raise $100,000 to help fight hunger in both counties. Any contributions from the community toward the $100,000 goal will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, with a gift from the VerStandig family. WAYNE HEIGHTS–The Washington Township Board of Supervisors met recently and discussed the following: The Township’s portion of a property tax appeal by Washington Jewish Community Camp Corporation, has been fully settled. The appeal was asking for reduction in property tax for properties located in Washington Township and included the Waynesboro School District. A decision was rendered by the Franklin County Courts in favor of WICCC. Washington Township’s portion of the credit amount was $45,381.00. WAYNESBORO—The Borough of Waynesboro has taken the first step in exploring a partnership with WellSpan Health to construct an emergency service campus across from WellSpan Waynesboro Hospital. WellSpan owns the land, and in addition to emergency services, the campus could include medical facilities and would continue to be the location of WellSpan’s helipad. HARRISBURG—The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry has released its preliminary employment situation report for June 2022. Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate was down one-tenth of a percentage point over the month to 4.5 percent in June. The U.S. unemployment rate was unchanged over the month, remaining at 3.6 percent where it has been since March.
