HAGERSTOWN – Hagerstown Community College’s Career Development, Internship and Job Services Office is conducting its annual clothing drive to collect clean, lightly worn and ready-to-wear professional clothing and accessories. The donated items are made available, free of charge, to students who are preparing for internships and employment opportunities. Since 2018, the Career Closet has served an average of 150 students annually. Students with the WCPS Marshall Street School Job Development Program assist in the coordination of this annual event. Nov. 14 is set aside annually as World Diabetes Day by the International Diabetes Federation, the World Health Organization and the United Nations to raise awareness of those in diabetes care. The day was chosen because it’s the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who, along with Charles Best, discovered insulin in 1922. An estimated 537 million people worldwide are living with diabetes, according to the International Diabetes Federation, and one in three people nationally have pre-diabetes. WAYNESBORO – Area residents are invited to a “star party”—a telescope viewing of the night sky—on Monday, Dec. 2, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Pine Hill Recreation Area near Waynesboro. The event is part of Buttonwood Nature Center’s Naturalist Discovery Series, created in partnership with Tri-State Astronomers. WAYNESBORO — Police arrested a 44-year-old Waynesboro man on felony charges involving terroristic threats, endangering another person and simple assault in a search that involved cordoning off areas around the 200 block of Hamilton Avenue Sunday afternoon, according to police and media reports. Timothy Charles Bickham Jr. had been sought by police since Nov. 5, stemming from an altercation that occurred on Oct. 1 in the parking lot of 604 E.
