CHAMBERSBURG – Five Wilson College students will each receive a $3,000 scholarship from a grant awarded by The Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation for the 2024-2025 academic year. Since 2015, TERF has provided Wilson student recipients with more than $112,000 in scholarship awards, including this year’s grant of $15,000. TERF’s mission is to support Thoroughbred health and welfare by funding scholarships, educational programs and equine research with a priority to make racing safer. WAYNESBORO – Rotarians in the past two weeks have learned about the efforts to eradicate polio and about the old tradition of “Town Canes.” Dr. Greg Lyon-Loftus discussed the polio eradication efforts during his Rotary presentation. He noted polio  has been eradicated in 123 countries with active cases now in only two countries. Last year more than 400 million polio immunizations took place, he added, along with immunizations for other diseases. CHAMBERSBURG – Magisterial District Court 39-2-01 in the Borough of Chambersburg is relocating to 630 Norland Ave. Magisterial District Judge Glenn Manns and staff will close the court’s current office at 218 N. Second St., at the end of business on Friday, Oct. 25. Staff will resume serving the public at the new Norland Avenue location starting Wednesday, Oct. 30. The relocation of this magisterial district court is one of the final components of the county’s multi-year court facilities improvement project. CHAMBERSBURG – Franklin County Commissioners will take their first look at the preliminary 2025 budget during the Wednesday, Oct. 23, commission meeting. The meeting, which also includes a public comment period, starts at 10 a.m. in Room 824 of the county Administration Building, 272 N. Second St. The 2024 budget totals $171.2 million, and for this year, the total property tax millage rate remained unchanged at 29.1 mills, Franklin County’s eighth consecutive year without a general fund tax increase.
