Annual Earth Celebration Day April 22 

WAYNESBORO—The Institute’s 32nd Earth Celebration Day is on Sat., April 22, at Pine Hill Recreation Area from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

The Recycle Yard Sale Fundraiser will be held in conjunction with the event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“The Institute is thrilled to welcome back our eco-friendly exhibitors and a full slate of activities,” said Jessica Watson, Institute assistant director and event organizer. “We have live music by Mountain Air, a guided StoryWalk® adventure, environmental artists and artisans, a student art show and so much more.”

Also offered are paper shredding by OSI (9 a.m.–noon), a Goodwill truck pick up, battery recycling, and eye glasses, aluminum tab and cell phone recycling by WALL Lions Club.

The Franklin Co. Commissioners’ Earth Day Proclamation is at 1:30 p.m., and Mountain Air performs from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The annual Environmental Artistry Award will be presented to a local artist whose work celebrates nature. 

The Recycle Fundraiser includes a silent auction for decorative and functional rain barrels, hand-painted by Waynesboro Area Senior High School Community Art program students. 

“Attendees should bring some cash—in addition to the rain barrels, we have great raffle items, a bake sale and a yard sale,” Watson said.

Have lunch in the park with food trucks, Maddie Ann’s Perogies and Bricello’s Caterers & Grilled Formaggio.

To date, environmental exhibitors include: Antietam Watershed Association, Appalachian Trail Community Group, Conococheague Institute, The ButterBee Foundation, Franklin County Rock and Mineral, Friends of Mont Alto Park, The Institute’s Water Striders, The Institute–Environmental & Cultural Programs, Little Antietam, Inc., Shade Tree Commission, Specialty Granules, Inc. and Tri-State Astronomers.

Artists and artisans include: Beth Skroban-Four Sons Farm (fiber arts); Denny Bingaman-42 West Arts Co-op; Renee Naugle-Renee’s Originals; Tracey Hearron-Cosmic Rhythm; Christine Lehman ; Kelly Funk -All Things Resin; Niska Frank-Expressions by Niska; Sabrina Gantz-Spindle & Thyme; and Jenny Snyder-Waynesboro Ceramic Arts Center. 

Table spaces to sell items in the yard sale are available for $25. Contact The Institute to arrange for your table space.
