Nothing but heaven itself is better than a friend who is really a friend. ~Plautus
You know there are many “important” things in life, but nothing quite like a friend; Wednesday, and this past week, reminded me of that thought.
I started my day, like I start many, at the Little Brick Coffee shop near the Shepherdstown bridge; there to greet me at 5:30 AM was Dorri, a “busy” friend who operates the coffee shop and is a barista like no other…. she brings smiles to many faces.
Karmyn, another working barista helps deliver those same smiles too…
Echo, a worker at the Potomac Bridge Brewery, was nearby; he had Jacob, his grandson mowing grass….
Ron Bowers, an old friend, and five-time Washington County Commissioner, dropped by at the coffee shop for a visit and some invigorating conversation and recollection of the good old days.
“Cookie,” a store owner on the Mainstreet of Boonsboro stopped too for a java and quick “hello.”
My ‘photographer and Dargan friend Wanda always checks in on me with a phone call or visit ~ a lifetime friend who is mighty good with a camera.
“Bubbette” brought a few hugs with her as she stopped by on her way to work in Leesburg; I’ve known her since she was a small girl on Red Hill…..her hugs are some of the best….
I spoke to the mayor (Russ Weaver) of Sharpsburg on the phone; he has been a very good friend over the years and has a deep love for the town of Sharpsburg which he has called home for his entire life; no better friend to have down this path of life than Russ….I so enjoy our conversations and get togethers.
Raphael, the Amazon delivery man, and New York Met fan, paid the coffee shop a visit on his way to work.
I talked to my old pal Nelson on the phone; he had just lost his mother to a long illness and was making funeral arrangements. I offered my condolences and willingness to assist.
Grant and Emma were on their way to take a test at Hagerstown Community College, but paused for a “hello” at the java stop; Emma always brightens the day by her presence: Grant too~
Had lunch with a dear friend and neighbor Sharon at Kitzi’s in Falling Waters; some joyful smiles and stories were told; nothing better than breaking bread and sharing stories with a friend….
Had a libation with Ken (the 1957 Chevy man) from Greencastle, and Jim, an old famous football player from Boonsboro High School days.
Spent some time with Kerry at the Brewery pavilion talking about the many issues of “life;” he always brings an interesting perspective to the table.
Went to retrieve some lunch for friends Jeff and Zane at the Brewery; they seem always hungry.
And so many other encounters who manage to brighten the day by a friendly hello, kind word or greeting……
Too many in life have hostilities when they wake up and carry the same to bed with them for an uneasy sleep; friendships though are like the rays of the nourishing sun; they have a knack’of warming your soul’………
I rejoice in friends; they are very special people; those folk with sour dispositions would be wise to seek out a good friend; it’s the best therapy you can find for a sad disposition!
I like ‘good’ friends ~ hope you have a few too! ~they are like a four-leaf clover ~ lucky to find and more lucky to have.
And perhaps Dr. Seuss, sums friendship up nicely:
“To the world, you may be one person, but to one person, you may be the world.”
Be a good friend!
