Almanack provides long-range forecasts for our area

HAGERSTOWN. – Want long-range forecasts tailored for our region? Think about the Town and County Almanack.

LocalNews1 has partnered with The Hagerstown Town and Country Almanack to bring you a story every Monday taken from current or past editions of the Almanack. First published in 1797, it’s the second oldest almanac in the United States and has been in continuous publication for 230 years and is the only almanac in the United States still published by the founders’ direct descendants.

As LocalNews1 publishes information from the Almanack, some of our readers may be wondering why the Almanack and how we can use it. This answer is stated best from the Almanack itself.

“Beginning with the 2021 edition, your “Almanack” is concentrating on the Eastern part of the United States. All weather forecasts and records will apply only to the area from the Mississippi River to the Atlantic Ocean and from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico. All calculations will be made for the horizon of Hagerstown, Maryland, and in Eastern Standard Time.”

That is the “why it is best for the readers in our region” answer, but the Almanack is so much more than weather. As our readers have discovered from previous articles, the Almanack has information ranging from lunar cycles to how to better use the internet. The changing of the seasons and what that represents.

There are farm reports, which are of great value for the Washington and Franklin County regions as much of our land is used for agriculture. The information is not restricted to just the land, but also the animals that live upon it such as livestock and poultry.

Some of the chapters are dedicated to everyday tips for cooking and gardening. Inspirational topics such as quotes and stories designed to entertain and inform. Health and medical stories that inspire and educate readers and so much more.

The 2026 Almanack is over 80 pages of entertaining and educational information that many of us can use in our day -to-day lives, no matter what our profession or interests may be. It is a reference guide to not just living a better life, but also understanding the world around us.

Whether you read the Almanack for fun or because it will help with the work you do every day, remember there is than just the weather in The Hagerstown Town and Country Almanack.
