Adams County Blossom Belt: A springtime spectacle

GETTYSBURG — As winter fades and spring takes hold, Adams County transforms into a breathtaking tapestry of pink and white blossoms, drawing visitors from near and far to experience the annual awakening of its 20,000 acres of fruit orchards.

Known as the Adams County Blossom Belt, this picturesque region just minutes from Gettysburg has become a must-see destination for nature lovers and travelers seeking a serene countryside escape.

The Blossom Belt showcases the area’s rich agricultural heritage, with apple, apricot, cherry, peach, pear and plum trees bursting into bloom. These blossoms not only signal the arrival of spring but also highlight the county’s status as one of the nation’s top apple producers.

Exploring the Blossom Belt

To help visitors navigate this floral wonderland, Destination Gettysburg has created the Adams County Blossom Belt Map. This self-guided driving trail features 11 stops where travelers can enjoy stunning vistas, farm markets brimming with local produce and unique activities. The entire route takes about an hour to drive but encourages leisurely exploration with stops for shopping, dining and photo opportunities.

The journey begins at Gettysburg National Military Park’s historic Peach Orchard, where peach blossoms and redbud trees typically bloom in late March. From there, visitors can head north to explore rolling hills dotted with orchards and farm markets. Stops along the way include carriage rides at Stop #5 and family-friendly adventures at Stop #6. For those looking to enjoy local flavors, Stops #8, #9, and #11 offer wine and craft beer tastings.

Seasonal Highlights

Blossom season in Adams County runs from late March through mid-May, with peak bloom depending on weather conditions. Special events add to the charm of this seasonal celebration. On April 26, visitors can attend the Adams County Blossom Festival at the National Apple Museum or Hollabaugh Bros.’ Spring Blossom Event. Both events feature local artisans, food trucks, kids’ activities and more.

Downtown Gettysburg also joins in the festivities with blossom-themed specials at shops, cafes and restaurants throughout April. For those planning an overnight stay, charming accommodations like the Historic Cashtown Inn (Stop #10) and Mansion House 1757 Boutique Inn (Stop #13) provide a cozy retreat.

Capturing the Beauty

Visitors are encouraged to document their journey using designated “Click And Share” photo spots along the trail. By bringing along Bloomin’ Li’l Lincoln—a miniature figurine available for photos—and posting on social media with #LilLincoln, travelers can share their experiences while celebrating Adams County’s vibrant springtime scenery.

Plan Your Visit

Whether it’s a day trip or a weekend getaway, the Adams County Blossom Belt offers something for everyone. To learn more about the map or upcoming events, visit Destination Gettysburg’s website or follow their social media pages for up-to-date blossom reports.
