HAGERSTOWN, Md. – In the midst of the ongoing pushback against the looming ICE detention facility in Williamsport, a new billboard has materialized in Hagerstown. Paid for by the “Indivisible Project,” the billboard appeared Thursday night and can be visible when traveling north down Dual Highway, just before Eastern Boulevard.
The board reads, “ICE camp is planned 5.6 miles ahead off Hopewell Rd. Not in our community. Speak out now.”
The Indivisible Project is a volunteer-based political action committee with branches throughout the East Coast. Washington County’s branch of Indivisible has been among the most prevalent groups doubling down against the detention facility in Williamsport, along with Hagerstown Rapid Response and local activists.
Since the preliminary injunction decision on April 15 preventing renovations on the warehouse space, activists have persisted in their efforts to block this detention center from moving forward.
