It seems like Path Valley Speedway, known as the “Little Track with Big Action,” won’t be a hidden local gem for long.
The quarter-mile, banked-clay oval had a brush with mainstream sprint car racing when the High Limit Racing series made its maiden voyage to Spring Run last weekend. Fans were treated to a 35-lap, 410 Sprints feature and by the time the dust settled, Oklahoma invader Tanner Thorson was $12,000 richer after nailing down his second High Limit win in two weeks.
Thorson started in the fifth spot and ran a patient race. He took over the top spot on the 22nd lap, and held off a relentless Brady Bacon for a 0.933-second win. Pennsylvania’s highest finisher in the race was Gettysburg’s Danny Dietrich, who took fourth.
The excitement at Path Valley salvaged a weekend of racing that had taken a hit from Mother Nature. Race programs at Hagerstown and Selinsgrove Speedways were both rained out, but two other tracks did host programs on Friday.
McGrewBid Motoplex held racing, much to the delight of Chambersburg teenager Trevor Gach, who raced to third- and fourth-place finishes, respectively, in the 600cc Winged and Wingless Micros. It was a day of forward movement from Gach, who moved up from seventh to fourth in the Winged feature and advanced from fourth to third in the Wingless race.
Williams Grove Speedway was also in action Friday and hosted the World of Outlaws Tune Up. Fayetteville’s Lance Dewease competed in the 410 Sprints and took 12th in the B-Main.
Below is a speedway-by-speedway, feature-by-feature look at races from last weekend that included drivers from the Local.News1 coverage area:
