The Mid-Penn cross country dual season came to an end last week, with three area teams claiming division championships.
Chambersburg was the big winner, with its girls winning the Commonwealth Division title at 6-0 and the boys going 5-1 to share the division crown with Carlisle. Waynesboro’s girls cross country team also celebrated a 6-1 season by winning a share of the Colonial alongside Boiling Springs.
Area cross country squads warmed up for the postseason by taking on the 32nd Carlisle Invitational last weekend. The Trojans’ Julian Clark took 16th in 15:56 in the boys race, while the girls race was highlighted by the efforts of Chambersburg’s Natalie Quinn (17th in 18:55) and North Hagerstown’s Kenzie Philp (25th in 19:14).
High school golf kicked off its postseason last week with area athletes competing at the Mid-Penn, YAIAA, and CMC Championships. At Mid-Penns, Waynesboro’s Abby Byers fired an 85 to take fifth place in the girls tourney, while the boys event was highlighted by Greencastle’s Camden Eby, who shot an 86. Fairfield’s Isabelle Studli (83) and Charlie Sweeney (89) finished 2-3 in the YAIAA girls championship, while Aden Frank posted a 78 to take third in the boys AA division. As for the CMC tourney, top scores were posted by Smithsburg’s Ben Kirchner (78), North Hagerstown’s Delaney Fuss (80) and Sadie Morton (83), and North Hagerstown’s Luke Leisinger (82).
On the boys soccer pitch, Chambersburg extended its points streak to three games after going 2-0 last week. One of those wins was a 4-1 thumping over Mechanicsburg, the No. 1 team in the Commonwealth Division. Greencastle-Antrim’s field hockey squad also went 2-0 last week, outscoring those opponents 10-0, and now have a winning record at 6-5.
Finally, the volleyball programs at Greencastle and Waynesboro continue to shine. Both teams went unbeaten last week and are set to meet on Thursday in a match that will have a major impact on the race for the Colonial Division title.
Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the Local.News1 coverage area performed last week:
