The North Hagerstown football team didn’t just make history in Friday’s game against Thomas Johnson, the Hubs rushed to it.
Four different North Hagerstown runners — Ty Fauntleroy, Michael Stewart, James Jackson, and Isaiah Seering — plowed into the end zone to lead the Hubs to a 38-15 victory over the Patriots. North Hagerstown (3-0) is off to its fastest start since 2003.
The Hubs overwhelmed Thomas Johnson (1-2) with a rushing attack that accounted for 379 yards. Fauntleroy (15 carries, 105 yards, 2 TDs), Stewart (9-141-1), Jackson (5-60-1), and Seering (6-23-1) fueled the offense, while Tai Gilliam also got in on the fun with nine carries for 40 yards.
Darius Geaman kicked a 23-yard field goal for North Hagerstown, while QB Colt Butts completed 2 of 3 passes for 30 yards. The Hubs were led defensively by Demean Thomas (sack, 3 pass breakups) and Ronnie Savage (interception).
North Hagerstown will try to keep its unbeaten season alive on Friday, when it hosts Central Woodstock (2-1), a team coming off a 26-13 loss to Broadway.
Frederick 30, South Hagerstown 7
Frederick took advantage of four turnovers to earn its first win of the season on Friday.
The Cadets (1-2) were led by Miles Robinson, who scored two TDs and eclipsed 100 yards as both a runner and a receiver.
South Hagerstown (0-3) will try to regroup on Friday, when it travels to take on Thomas Johnson (1-2), a team coming off a 38-15 loss to North Hagerstown.
Smithsburg 28, Berkeley Springs 14
Smithsburg scored a pair of TDs in the second half to break a 14-14 tie and earn its second win of the season on Friday.
The Leopards improved to 2-1, while Berkeley Springs fell to 2-2.
Smithsburg will be aiming to resume its winning ways on Friday, when it visits Brunswick (0-3), a squad coming off a 42-7 loss to Boonsboro.
State College 40, Chambersburg 0
State College rolled up more than 400 yards of offense and cashed in on three interceptions to earn its second-consecutive win in Friday night’s Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division contest.
The Little Lions (4-1, 3-1 Commonwealth) built a 7-0 lead after one quarter, and were ahead 24-0 by halftime. State College put the game away with nine points in third quarter and seven in the fourth.
For Chambersburg (2-3, 1-3), Cam Green completed 18 of 27 passes for 196 yards, with his favorite targets being Cooper Stockslager (4 catches, 56 yards), Cobe Penick (4-45), Davonte Scott (2-26), and Brycen Murray (2-26). Malachi Tasker totaled 35 rushing yards on nine carries.
The Trojans hit the road on Friday to take on Cedar Cliff (2-3, 2-2), a team coming off a 35-14 loss to Harrisburg.
Big Spring 27, Greencastle-Antrim 17
Greencastle’s Blake Reuter churned out his third 100-yard rushing game of the season, but the Blue Devils lost their second-straight game on Friday.
Reuter ran for two TDs and totaled 123 yards on 14 carries to lead Greencastle. Lars Galinanes added 52 yards on 15 carries for the Blue Devils (1-4, 1-3 Colonial Division), while Noah Shifflett ran three times for 25 yards. Greencastle QB Lane Barry completed 5 of 13 passes for 43 yards, with his targets being Galinanes (2 catches, 29 yards), Iverson Stoner (1-10), Shifflett (1-6), and Wyatt Hull (1-4).
Defensively, the Blue Devils got seven tackles apiece from Seth Kielek, Shifflett, and Ben Belleau, while Hull registered six tackles, including two tackles for loss and a sack.
Big Spring improved to 4-1 (2-1 division).
Greencastle fuels up the bus Friday for a road game at Trinity (3-2, 2-1), a squad coming off a 17-6 victory over Milton Hershey.
Palmyra 9, Waynesboro 7
Palmyra snapped a 27-game losing streak in the Keystone Division with last weekend’s victory over Waynesboro.
The Cougars (2-3, 1-3) built a 3-0 halftime lead, and expanded their lead to 9-0 in the fourth quarter with a two-yard TD plunge from Roman Russek.
With less than four minutes remaining in regulation, the Tribe (1-4, 0-4) put together a drive starting from their own 30. Brayden Heimbuch completed long passes to Steven Howard and Dwayne Robinson, before Austin Willequer broke off for a big run all the way to the 11. A few plays later, Waynesboro was on the board with a one-yard TD pass from Willequer to Steven Howard to cut the lead to two points, 9-7.
The Tribe eventually got the ball back with less than a minute to play, but could not complete the comeback.
Waynesboro will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak on Friday, when it travels to take on Northern York (0-5, 0-4), a team coming off a 47-7 loss to Red Land.
