The South Hagerstown volleyball team was put to the test on Tuesday.
The Rebels didn’t win, but they held their ground.
South took Williamsport, Maryland’s defending Class 2A champions, to a battle, playing closely in the first two sets and winning the third.
In the long run, Williamsport won 25-22, 25-18, 14-25, 25-14 in a match played at Hagerstown Community College.
Malea Moore led the Rebels with 10 kills and 11 digs, while Jaliah Morgan added six kills. Tenley Yost played a multi-purpose match, posting five kills, four blocks and a pair of service aces, while Carson Lehman produced five kills and two blocks.
They were supported by Reilly Foley with 18 digs and two aces and Isidora McCarty with 17 digs and two aces.
Molly Pollak and Aubrey Socks each had 10 assists and two aces. Socks collected five digs.

Shepherd takes ninth at Millersville Fall Classic
KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Sara Veara fired a tournament total 161 to tie for 14th place as Shepherd finished ninth on Tuesday in the 11-team tournament at Berkleigh Country Club.
The Rams combined for a total of 791, finishing behind a 618 posted by team champion West Chester. West Chester’s Cara Murphy won medalist honors by carding a 36-hold total of 153.
Rounding out the Rams’ scoring were Williamsport’s Kaylie Brown (194, 48th), Natalee Johnson (228, 57th) and sophomore Allison Wallace (116, 60th).
Paige Stickley carded 137, finishing 64th on the first day and didn’t in second round action.
MEN’S GOLF
Shepherd Men’s Golf Places 12th in Delaware
WILMINGTON, Del. – Boonsboro’s Morgan Dehoff finished 44th and South Hagerstown’s Joey Leisinger was 56th overall as Shepherd finished 12th at the Blue Hen Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Delaware, at the White Clay Creek Country Club.
Dehoff carded 235 and Leisinger totaled 243 in the three-round event.
Delaware’s Arsit Areephun took medalist honors with a three-round total of 209. Delaware shot three under par for the tourney to take team honors.
Redshirt freshman Killian Donnelly shot 231 and tied for 31st place to lead the Rams Trey Rios (239, 52nd) and Nop Satjavitvisarn (253, 66th) rounded out the Rams’ team effort.
COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL
Ryan Named PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Shepherd middle hitter/right side Sophia Ryan was named PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.
Ryan led the Rams (6-1) to a 4-0 week as she had 39 kills to carry a .410 attack percentage. She added 18 blocks with seven solo blocks.
HONORS AND AWARDS
Weaver is one of eight Rams named Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Freshman outfielder Payton Weaver was one of eight Shepherd softball players to be named 2024-25 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes.
Also selected were shortstop Lexi Clatterbuck, third baseman Lauren Moore, pitcher Abby McBride, first baseman Brenna Collis, pitcher Madelayne Ruffner, second baseman Cate Russian and catcher/outfielder Morgan Cave.
Weaver boasted a 3.90 grade point average as a therapeutic recreation major. She batted .250 with six hits in 24 at-bats. She drove in two runs and scored 10. She was 2-of-5 in stolen bases. Weaver posted a .971 fielding percentage in 35 chances.
