North Hagerstown’s football team completed just two passes in its season opener at Tuscarora on Friday night. Of course, when you can run like the Hubs can, why throw?
Led by the efforts of running backs Michael Stewart and Ty Fauntleroy, North used a dominating rushing attack to overhwhelm the Titans, 29-14.
Stewart exploded for 185 rushing yards and two TDs on 16 carries, while Fauntleroy rushed 16 times for 140 yards and a score. Tai Gilliam added a rushing TD to go along with 36 yards on nine carries.
The Hubs (1-0) built a 22-6 halftime lead and expanded that advantage to 29-6 after three quarters. Tuscarora (0-1) put up a TD in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to complete the comeback.
North returns to the field on Friday for a home game against Manchester Valley, a team coming off a 22-14 loss to Hereford.

The Tribe (1-2, 0-2 Keystone) heated up in the second quarter after a scoreless first, getting on the board with a short TD run from Rayshawn Frazier-Hewitt. Waynesboro’s advantage increased to 14-0 when Christian Munday blazed to the end zone 88 yards on a pass from Frazier-Hewitt.
Shippensburg (2-1, 2-0) kept its cool, however, and used a stout running attack to get back into the game before halftime. With 1:35 left in the second quarter, the Hounds’ Damien Horan broke through for a 17-yard TD run to cut Waynesboro’s lead in half, 14-7.
Shippensburg’s defense ramped up the intensity in the third quarter, forcing two turnovers on downs on the Tribe’s first two possessions, and cashing in both times. The Greyhounds tied the game on a 64-yard pass from Braiden Carroll to Brady Maciejewski, before surging ahead 21-14 on a 10-yard scoring run from Mark Carrothers.
