HAGERSTOWN, MD – The Boys & Girls Club of Washington County is the recipient of a $1 million investment into its Empowerment Campaign from the Alice Virginia and David Fletcher Foundation.
“The extraordinary generosity of the Fletcher Foundation will go a long way in helping us meet the needs of our current and future members in the form of a brand new, state of the art clubhouse,” Boys & Girls Club CEO Addie Nardi said. “We are thrilled to honor the generosity of the Fletcher family and the board of directors of the foundation by naming our new facility after the family.”
The $11 million project will culminate in the replacement of the current Pennsylvania Avenue clubhouse of the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County. This current structure dates back over 100 years and is currently in a state of disrepair necessitating a rebuild. The Pennsylvania Avenue clubhouse is the largest of the BGCWC sites, with 110 local youth signed up to attend this site. The new building will be The Alice Virginia and David W. Fletcher Foundation Center.
The mission of the Alice Virginia and David W. Fletcher Foundation is to provide aid and encouragement to charitable organization’s carry on their activities and work principally in Washington County and help worthy individuals continue their education, establish themselves in business, overcome adversities or maintain or support themselves or their families. The foundation also serves to enhance the quality of life in Washington County.
Always quiet philanthropists during their lifetime, the foundation was created at the death of David Fletcher in April 1991. Beginning in 1994, the Fletcher Foundation commenced making grants to various charitable organization’s in Washington County. Alice Virginia D. Fletcher died in October 2007, at which time the Alice Virginia and David Fletcher Foundation was elevated to a major contributor of charitable organizations.

The Boys & Girls Club of Washington County after school programs and summer camps throughout Washington and Allegany Counties in Maryland. The organization’s mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens. The club has been successfully serving the community since 1941 and currently serves approximately 700 city youth aged 6-18 years old.
