Take the family on a guided trail hike

The Institute invites area families on a free, guided winter hike along the Appalachian Trail on Sunday, Jan. 30 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Led by an Institute naturalist, hikers will explore some of the wonders to be found in the woods and along the byways.

“The Appalachian Trail is legendary,” said Pam Rowland, Institute education director and program organizer. “We are fortunate to live in an area that the Trail crosses through in several nearby locations.”

The hike is the first in a series of Appalachian Trail hikes planned for the last Sunday of each month through May 2022, as part of The Institute’s Naturalist Discovery Series.

The activity is geared for families with children age 10 and older. Later hikes will welcome younger kids.

Participation is free, but pre-registration is required. Register via email at [email protected]. The meeting place for the hike will be sent upon registration.

COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed.

This program series is sponsored by Pam and Bruce Rowland, and by The Institute’s Today’s Horizon Fund Contributors: The Nora Roberts Foundation; The John R. Hershey Jr. and Anna L. Hershey Family Foundation; APX Enclosures, Inc.; The Carolyn Terry Eddy Family: Carolyn, with daughters Connie Fleagle & Kim Larkin.
