WAYNESBORO – The pharmacy at Rite Aid in Waynesboro will close Wednesday, May 28, as part of bankruptcy procedures filed by the corporation. Pharmacy hours for that day will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to manager Diane Tieman.
The store, located at 1513 E. Main St. in the Wayne Heights Mall, will remain open for now, she added. “All Rite Aids will (eventually) close,” she said.
“We are advising customers to get in touch with their doctors to send their prescriptions somewhere else,” Tieman said. The pharmacy also is not accepting any new prescriptions, she added.
Rite Aid first filed for bankruptcy in October 2023, with a debt of nearly $4 billion. The company was founded in 1962 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, as Thrif D Discount Center, later changing its name to Rite Aid Corporation in 1968.
In a May 15 press release on the corporation’s website, it was noted that Rite Aid has successfully entered into a series of sale agreements and pharmacy services transition agreements. This includes the rolling transition of pharmacy assets from more than 1,000 store locations across the U.S. to operators including CVS Pharmacy, Walgreens, Albertsons, Kroger and Giant Eagle, among others, as well as the sale and operation by CVS Pharmacy of many Rite Aid and Bartell Drugs stores located in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.
