While we wait for the high school track and field postseason to reach its climax, now seems like as good of a time as any to shine the spotlight on our area’s future stars of the sport.
Chambersburg’s girls recently concluded their season with a brilliant showing at the Altoona Middle School Championship. The Trojans were highlighted by three individual medalists in Khloe Jones (5th in 400, 1:02.92), Lillian Spohn (8th in 800, 2:33.35), and Taliya Raber (8th in 3,200, 13:12.09). Two of Chambersburg’s relays — the 4×400 (4:30.40) and 4×800 (10:40.03) — nailed down third-place finishes. Thanks to those contributors, Chambersburg finished 10th in the team standings with 18 points.
On the boys side, the Trojans got a ninth-place finish in the 3,200 from Liam Coy, who clocked an 11:30.29 for ninth place.
Greencastle-Antrim hosted a middle school invite of its own that saw area competitors secure 14 first-place finishes. The biggest winner of the day was the Blue Devils’ Chloe Parks, who captured a trio of wins in the 200, 100 hurdles, and long jump. Taylar Iseminger (100) and Maelle Weir (shot put) also earned wins for the Greencastle girls.
Greencastle’s boys also had a multi-event winner in Kaiden Dawson, who placed first in both the shot put and discus. Kelson Wenger (1,600) and Brady Kagarise (long jump) also won their events.
Waynesboro was also in attendance at the Greencastle Invite, with the Tribe girls getting wins from Morgan Jones (1,600), Gabriella Rutkowski (3,200), and the 4×800 relay. Waynesboro’s boys got a win from its 4×800 relay, as well as Noah Hartman in the 3,200.
Finally, Smithsburg Youth Athletics most recently competed at the Westminster Youth Invitational and got a victory in the 9-10 age division from Haleigh Daniels, who conquered the high jump with a leap of 3-4.
Below is an invite-by-invite, event-by-event look at how youth and middle school athletes from the Local.News1 coverage area have performed in recent weeks:
