BOONSBORO, Md. – The Boonsboro Appalachian Trail Community Advisory Committee and Boonsboro Economic Development Commission will host a dedication and unveiling of the new Appalachian Trail Forever stamp at 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, at Washington Monument State Park, 6620 Zittletown Road, Middletown.
The event is free and open to the public. Local officials and community leaders, including Washington County Commissioner Jeff Cline, Boonsboro Mayor Howard Long, Appalachian Trail Conservancy CEO Sandi Marra, Visit Hagerstown & Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Tiffany Ahalt, and Boonsboro Postmaster Maria Johnson, are scheduled to participate.
The U.S. Postal Service’s new Forever stamp series features images from the Appalachian Trail, including a Maryland stamp highlighting Annapolis Rock and the Hagerstown Valley’s fall foliage. The trail, which passes near Boonsboro and Middletown, is celebrated for its role in providing restorative experiences in nature.
Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase the commemorative stamps and other philatelic products. The event underscores the region’s connection to the Appalachian Trail and its significance as an official Appalachian Trail Community, offering support and hospitality to hikers.
Washington Monument State Park, the site of the event, is home to the first monument dedicated to George Washington and sits along the Appalachian Trail atop South Mountain. The park is a popular destination for hiking, history and scenic views.
The Postal Service, an independent federal agency, continues to serve communities nationwide through the sale of postage and related products, supporting its operations without tax dollars.
