Most teens celebrate their 17th birthday with a game of laser tag or a trip to the pizza place.
Lincoln Kearchner celebrated in a different way: Burning rubber and taking names at Lincoln Speedway.
Kearchner, of Fairfield, surged to victory over the field of 24 in the East Coast Legends feature. It was his first win in five years of racing, and he nailed down the milestone just days before his birthday.
Kearchner started on the pole and drove to Victory Lane over Jeremy Ott, with his dad, Seth Kearchner, finishing in the third spot.
The day began with the Kearchners both logging Top 5 times in hot laps. Heat races came next, with Seth winning his heat and Lincoln taking second in his race.
Lincoln drew the pole for the 20-lap feature, and although he was challenged all race long, he never gave up his position. The feature came down to a restart on the 17th lap, and Lincoln dashed his way to the win.
Chambersburg’s Kelby Friese (11th) and Kirk Martin (11th) also finished the race.
Auto racing season hits its stride this weekend with action scheduled at Lincoln, Williams Grove, BAPS Motor Speedway, and Port Royal. Hagerstown Speedway will host a Test & Tune event on Saturday, before it opens its season next weekend.
Below is a race-by-race, driver-by-driver look at how locals performed on the racing scene last weekend:
