Mr. Donovan Reichard Beachley, Jr., 89, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday morning, March 4, 2015, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown. He was husband of Mrs. Mary Ellen Beachley, his loving wife of 64 years.
Born September 21, 1925, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Donovan Reichard, Sr., and Grace Louise Rinehart Beachley. He graduated Hagerstown High School in 1943; and served in the United States Navy from 1944-46 as a radio man in the Air Corp.
Later he attended and graduated Juniata College in 1947; and Sloan School of Business at MIT in 1949.
Mr. Beachley was President and Chairman of the Board of Beachley Furniture Company, Hagerstown.
He was a lifetime member and past Chairman of the Board of the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.
Additionally, he was a member and past president of the Hagerstown Rotary Club. He was past board member of the National Furniture Manufacturers Association and F&M / Susquehanna Bank, Hagerstown; a member of Fountain Head Country Club; and Trustee Emeritus of Juniata College.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Barbara Marshall of Reston, Virginia, David C. Beachley and wife Elizabeth and Dr. Edward R. Beachley and wife Betsy, all of Hagerstown; and his loving grandchildren Ryan and Christianna Beachley, Laura Farnen, and Justine, Mariel, and Teddy Beachley.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Beachley was preceded in death by his grandson, Andrew Farnen.
The Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, is handling the arrangements. There will not be visiting at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at his church, Hagerstown Church of the Brethren on Monday, March 9, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM. A memorial service will begin at the church at 3:00 PM with his pastors, Revs. Timothy L. and Audrey N. Hollenberg-Duffey, officiating. A reception will follow services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Beachley’s name to church, Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, 15 South Mulberry Street, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740.
