Democratic governors Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania and Wes Moore of Maryland won reelection Tuesday, Nov. 3, securing second four-year terms in their respective states, according to The Associated Press.
Both incumbents defeated Republican challengers as voters across the two states cast ballots in the 2026 midterm elections.
Shapiro wins second term in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro defeated Republican state Treasurer Stacy Garrity, securing another four years in office alongside Lt. Gov. Austin Davis.
The Associated Press called the race for Shapiro shortly after polls closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Shapiro, who was first elected governor in 2022, campaigned on his administration’s record and proposals involving education, economic development and public safety.
Garrity, who served as Pennsylvania’s state treasurer, challenged Shapiro with a campaign focused on affordability, taxes and state spending.
The gubernatorial contest was among several closely watched races in Pennsylvania, where voters also selected members of Congress and the state Legislature.
Moore wins reelection in Maryland
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore also secured a second term Tuesday, defeating Republican challenger Dan Cox in a rematch of the state’s 2022 gubernatorial election.
The Associated Press called the race shortly after Maryland’s polls closed at 8 p.m.
Moore, who became Maryland’s first Black governor when he took office in January 2023, was reelected alongside Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller.
His campaign emphasized economic development, public safety and his administration’s work during its first term.
Cox, a former state delegate, campaigned on reducing taxes and government spending, along with other changes to state policies.
Local election results still being counted
Although the gubernatorial races have been called, election officials in both states will continue reporting and processing ballots.
In Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and Washington County, Maryland, voters also cast ballots in congressional, legislative and local contests.
Election-night results remain unofficial until the respective states complete their canvassing and certification processes.
Pennsylvania election results are available through the Pennsylvania Department of State.
Maryland results are available through the Maryland State Board of Elections.
