It’s been a sharp season on the track for Cole Dewease, and fans of the 305 Sprints driver haven’t been the only ones to notice.
Stewart Smith Racing — after parting ways with driver Dylan Cisney earlier this month — handed over the keys to their No. 27S 410 sprint car to Fayetteville’s Dewease to close out the season. And last weekend at the Britton Finkenbinder Memorial, hosted by BAPS Motor Speedway, Dewease gave the Stewart Smith team an immediate return on their investment with a victory.
Competing in the same division as his legendary father, National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Lance Dewease, it took a few races for the younger driver to get his bearings. He finished seventh in his heat, and then missed the transfer to the main event after taking fifth in the B-Main. Dewease’s night, however, was far from over.
He drew the pole for the 15-lap Non-Winners Special and knew what to do from there, driving to a wire-to-wire victory over Jayden Wolf and Brett Strickler. As for Lance Dewease, he drove from 15th to 13th in the A-Main.
Hagerstown Quarter Midget Association had a busy weekend of racing that gave drivers plenty of opportunities to turn laps over multiple features in every division. Saturday’s racing was highlighted by the efforts of Greencastle’s Jeremy Hood, who was a two-time runner-up in the Junior 160 features, while also racking up another second-place finish in the Junior Hondas. Hayden Rowland, of Hagerstown, posted two runner-up finishes in the Blue Rookie features, while Chambersburg’s Nicholas Nathans added a second-place finish of his own.
One day later, Hood secured third-place finishes in both the Junior Honda and Junior 160 races, while Rowland took second in the Blue Rookie feature.
Finally, Greencastle’s Todd Walls had a solid night at McGrewBid Motoplex, driving from fourth to second in the 500cc PA Micro Midgets feature.
Below is a track-by-track, feature-by-feature look at races from last weekend that included drivers from the LocalNews1.org coverage area:
