HAGERSTOWN, Md. — The Washington County Chamber of Commerce has named Gregory ‘Greg’ I. Snook the recipient of its 2027 Legacy Award.
The Legacy Award is given when warranted to recognize individuals who have had a significant impact on Washington County through their career achievements and community service. Recipients demonstrate leadership and an exceptional work ethic and have consistently performed above and beyond normal expectations throughout their careers.
As a lifelong resident of Washington County, Snook brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his work. Throughout his career, he has been a dedicated leader in Washington County’s business and economic development community.
Snook currently serves as executive director of the Alice Virginia and David W. Fletcher Foundation, which provides aid and encouragement to charitable organizations throughout the community. He also serves as chairman of the Hagerstown-Washington County Industrial Foundation (CHIEF), following 15 years as the organization’s president and CEO. Established in 1963, CHIEF is a nonprofit economic development organization focused on developing real estate, assisting with business and industrial expansion, and supporting downtown revitalization in Washington County.
Snook’s commitment to the community extends across numerous organizations and institutions. He serves as president of the Hagerstown Multi-Use Sports and Events Facility (Meritus Park). He has served on the Hagerstown Community College Board of Trustees since 2007, served on the board of directors of Franklin Financial Services Corp. and was chairman of the Governor’s Task Force for Alternative Energy. He also served as president of the Washington County Board of County Commissioners from 1990 to 2006.
In addition, Snook previously served as chairman of the board of trustees of Meritus Medical Center and continues to serve the organization through his involvement with the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine.
Snook helped reshape Hagerstown’s landscape when CHIEF acquired property for the downtown baseball stadium, Meritus Park. As the owner of the stadium, CHIEF leases it to Downtown Baseball LLC, which secured an expansion franchise from the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball to establish the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars. He has also been an integral part of land development for major projects such as the Mt. Aetna Technology Park, a 157-acre property that will soon house its first business, Jamison Door Company/BMP Group.
Snook continues to make a lasting impact on the area through his commitment to philanthropy, economic development, infrastructure, industrial recruitment and downtown revitalization. He attended Hagerstown Community College and is a 2001 graduate of Leadership Maryland. He resides in Hagerstown, Maryland, with his wife, Ruth Ann. They have two daughters and two grandsons.
The Legacy Award will be presented at the Business Awards event from 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 24, 2027, at the Maryland Theatre.
