WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Waynesboro Area School District Superintendent Dr. Rita Sterner-Hine and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Diane McCallum have set up dates to meet with area residents to share updates about things happening around the district and to answer any questions or concerns that the public may have.
The first of the four meetings will take place on Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Waynesboro YMCA from 7:30-9:30 a.m. The second meeting will be on Oct. 9 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Greater Waynesboro Chamber of Commerce. On Nov. 13 the two area leaders will be at the Quincy Village Community Center from 8-10 a.m., and the final event will be on Dec. 18 at the Blue Ridge Summit Library from 4-6 p.m.
When asked why those specific locations and times were chosen, Sterner-Hine explained, “The locations are a cross section of our community, and the times are to target early workout members or after-school drop-off parents at the YMCA, the Chamber office to meet the mid-morning and lunchtime residents, the time chosen for Quincy Village was the ideal time for residents of Quincy, and the Blue Ridge Summit Library for after-school hours.”
When asked why these meetings were arranged by the administration, she said, “Both Dr. McCallum and I live in the community and have countless interactions with families and community members on a regular basis, but this was an opportunity to allow additional time to meet with area residents. We want to share the Waynesboro Area School District Comprehensive Plan and allow time to ask questions, share ideas and concerns.”
Sterner-Hine acknowledged that there has been a great deal of concern raised by area residents at the school board meetings and on social media platforms and that these public events will be an opportunity for all area residents to voice their concerns, but also a chance to build community relations within the district.
