Corn lovers can butter up their plans for the 45th annual Shippensburg Corn Festival, set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, in downtown Shippensburg along King Street. The rain-or-shine street festival will feature fresh corn sold by the dozen, more than 200 artisans and craftspeople, 40 food vendors offering American and ethnic fare, an antique car show and entertainment at Library Square, Fogelsonger-Bricker Funeral Home, the Town Gazebo and Fora Square. Organizers expect the festival, held annually on the last Saturday in August, to draw more than 40,000 visitors for a day celebrating the community and its agricultural tradition.
Smooth syncopations and soulful solos will fill the summer air as the Buttonwood Nature Center presents the 2026 Buttonwood Jazz Fest to celebrate its 35th anniversary with a free “All-Star” live concert on Sunday, Aug. 30. The evening of music will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Wharf, located at 10141 Wharf Road in Waynesboro. Featuring a standout lineup of musicians—including guitarist Paul Bollenback, trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, drummer Tommy Campbell, tenor saxophonist Troy Roberts, and bassist Luques Curtis—the community celebration invites attendees to bring lawn chairs or blankets for picnic-style seating, with an Auntie Anne’s Pretzels food truck on-site and a Q&A session with the artists following the show.
Patriotic pop hits will take center stage as the U.S. Army Field Band Pop Ensemble performs in Hagerstown Community College’s Red, White, and Blue Concert Series at 6:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at the Alumni Amphitheater, 11400 Robinwood Drive, Hagerstown, Maryland. The free, public concert will offer the community an evening of live music celebrating American spirit; tickets are not required. Concessions will be available, though outside food and drinks are not permitted on the amphitheater grounds.
Beat the late-summer heat and scoop up some sweet community fun as Zion Reformed UCC hosts a free Ice Cream Social to bring neighbors together. The festivities run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 259 S. Main St. in Chambersburg. Designed to offer family-friendly entertainment, the gathering will feature complimentary ice cream, live music, and interactive games. Community members are encouraged to bring their friends, family, lawn chairs, and sweet teeth for a relaxing afternoon.
As the Sturgeon Moon rises over the Great Appalachian Valley, hikers can catch the final glow of sunset during a Full Moon Sunset Hike from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at Washington Monument State Park, 6620 Zittlestown Rd., Middletown, Maryland. Participants will meet at the Washington Monument State Park Museum before hiking from the monument trail base to the summit in time to view the sunset, then return by flashlight or headlamp under the full moon.
