‘Little Mermaid’ auditions set, other theatrical performances on tap

Theaters across south-central Pennsylvania and western Maryland have a wonderful lineup of performances. From timeless musicals to youth productions, stages in Franklin, Washington and Frederick counties are coming alive. Whether you prefer a lighthearted beach tribute or a modern satire, there’s a show that will match every taste. 

Franklin County

Waynesboro Children’s Theater Troupe is holding auditions for “The Little Mermaid” at the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren located at 117 S. Church St. Auditions for youth ages 11-18 are on Monday, Aug. 24, starting at 6 p.m. Auditions for youth ages 6-10 are on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 6 p.m. Callbacks are on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. All those auditioning should bring a current photo of themselves and a completed audition application which can be found at www.wctt.org. Shows are from Dec. 3-6 (four shows). 

Totem Pole Playhouse is showing the following:

“Dolly” from Aug. 20-30

“The Music of Queen + Journey” from Oct. 3-4 (three shows)

“Seussical” on Oct. 17 (one show and free to the public)

“Jonathan Burns: Life of the Party” on Oct. 24 (two shows) 

“Toby: A Tribute to Toby Keith” on Nov. 7 (two shows) 

“A Christmas Carol” from Dec. 4-13

Star Theatre Mercersburg is presenting the following:

“Blue Ribbon Belles” from Sept. 19-27 (four shows)

“Away in an Airport” from Dec. 5-20 (six shows) 

Chambersburg Community Theater is presenting the following:

“Wait Until Dark” from Sept. 18-20

“The Rocky Horror Show” from Oct. 29-31

The Greencastle Amateur Players currently has no showings

Washington County

Potomac Playmakers in Hagerstown presents the following:

“Come From Away” from Sept. 11-20 (six shows)

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” with a shadowcast from Oct. 30-31 (two shows)

“The Importance of Being Earnest” from Dec. 4-13 (six shows)

The Washington County Playhouse Dinner Theatre is presenting the following: 

“Dracula” from Sept. 12 – Nov. 1

“Irving Berlin’s White Christmas” from Nov. 27 – Dec. 19

Maryland Symphony Youth Orchestra is performing the following:

“American Icons” from Oct. 10-11 (two shows)

“Shakespeare in Symphony” from Nov. 14-15 (two shows)

“Home for the Holidays” from Dec. 19-20 (two shows)

Frederick County

Weinberg Center for the Arts in Frederick is presenting the following:

“The Hot Sardines” on Oct. 9

“Live with David Sedaris” on Oct. 10

“TOAST – A Tribute to Bread” on Oct. 24

Maryland Ensemble Theatre in Frederick is presenting the following:

“Into The Woods” from Sept. 11 – Oct. 4

“Moon Festival Alice” from Sept. 26 – Oct.18

“The Crater Sisters’ Christmas Special” from Nov. 20 – Dec. 20

“The Pigeon Gets A Big Time Holiday Extravaganza” from Nov. 28 – Dec. 20
