5 Things to do this weekend

Waynesboro is gearing up for a patriotic bash a quarter-millennium in the making. Mainstreet Waynesboro, Inc. will host the rescheduled “Boro Bash 250” on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Main Street Park to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary. The free, family-friendly event features a public reading of the Declaration of Independence, live music by Mid Life Crisis, a hot dog eating contest, local vendors and hands-on activities ranging from face painting to Alka Seltzer rocket launches. Community members of all ages are invited to join the semiquincentennial celebration, which honors the nation’s milestone with local history displays, Americana eats, and red, white and blue festivities.

Crack open a cold beer and get your mallet ready: the 30th Annual Crab Feast returns to Chambersburg this month to raise funds for local community initiatives. Hosted by AMVETS Post 224, the rain-or-shine summer tradition runs from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the post’s picnic pavilions, located at 750 5th Ave. Ticket holders can enjoy all-you-can-eat hard-shell crabs, other food options, and local GearHouse Brewing beer, alongside small games of chance and a benefit auction.

Strumming acoustic melodies against a backdrop of historic timber and rolling farmland, True Vintage and Gracie Martin are set to bring live music to the countryside. Cold Springs Farm will host the 2026 Singing in the Barn event on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 6:30 p.m., bringing the community together for an evening of local music, food, and fellowship in a rustic setting. The performance takes place at 9433 McClanahan Rd. in Greencastle.

When George Washington watched a drastically outnumbered band of Maryland soldiers charge British forces in August 1776, he reportedly lamented, “What brave fellows I must this day lose”—a heroically sacrificial moment known as the Stand of the Maryland Line that saved the Continental Army from total destruction. To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the pivotal Battle of Brooklyn, Fort Frederick State Park in Big Pool, Maryland, will host a special living history event on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Park staff and volunteers will offer military reenactment programs focusing on Smallwood’s Brigade alongside a tabletop wargame recreating the crucial Revolutionary War clash.

Unwind surrounded by fine art, live local tunes and regional wine as the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts hosts a special Garden Night from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21. Taking place in the museum’s Rose Garden at 401 Museum Drive in Hagerstown, Maryland, the free, public event celebrates local arts and culture with live performances by the Stable Shakers and the Sons of Pitches. Guests can explore the museum’s galleries until 8 p.m., sip wine available for purchase from Stone House Urban Winery, and pack a picnic or enjoy pre-ordered picnic boxes from Gordon’s Grocery.
