McSHERRYSTOWN, Pa. — Ripleigh’s Creamery will close its McSherrystown storefront at the end of the month after five years in business, but its signature ice cream flavors are expected to remain available at the site under new ownership.
The shop, at 2 S. Sixth St., announced Saturday on Facebook that Aug. 30 will be its final day of operation. The company said its lease is ending and that it plans to transfer the space to another business.
The incoming business will continue selling Ripleigh’s Creamery’s main ice cream flavors, according to the announcement. It also plans to add dirty sodas and barbecue items.
Ripleigh’s Creamery did not identify the new operator or provide a timeline for when the business will open.
“We are so incredibly grateful for the memories and sweet moments this little store has given us over the past five years,” the company said in its post.
The closure applies to the McSherrystown shop only. Ripleigh’s Creamery’s seasonal location in Emmitsburg, Maryland, remains open, and its York Revolution Stadium stand continues to operate during baseball games.
The announcement comes as the company faces a federal lawsuit filed by a former teenage employee. The lawsuit alleges sex discrimination and retaliation under the Civil Rights Act after the employee was fired in October 2025, shortly after her mother reported alleged sexual harassment by a co-worker. The suit seeks lost wages and other damages.
Laura Maring, the company’s owner, previously stated that the business takes allegations of sexual harassment and employee safety seriously. She said the employment decision was made for a “legitimate, non-retaliatory business reason to protect everyone involved.”
