WAYNESBORO, Pa. — More than 200 children in the Waynesboro and Greencastle areas received support ahead of the new school year through a recent back-to-school event organized by Waynesboro Community & Human Services.
Officials with the 95-year-old organization said the event helped children and families prepare for the return to school while bringing together volunteers and community supporters.
Waynesboro Community & Human Services members thanked the volunteers who donated their time to assist with the effort, saying their support was essential to the event’s success.
The organization also expressed appreciation to the families and community members who attended and supported the program.
The back-to-school event served children from both communities, providing assistance to help families begin the academic year prepared.
Waynesboro Community & Human Services and its predecessor organizations have been serving the community for 95 years. In 2011, two local agencies — the Waynesboro Welfare Association and the Waynesboro Area Human Services Council — merged to form WCHS.
The Waynesboro Welfare Association was established in 1931, and the Human Services Council was founded in 1979 by the Fellowship of Churches. It has continued to grow ever since, all thanks to the helping hands of this amazing community, the group’s leaders said.
