What’s a soccer squad to do when it has already conquered the top division in its league?
For the Union Soccer Club, based in Chambersburg, the answer to that question is simple: Bump up in league.
Three USC boys teams — the U12 Havoc, U14 United and U15 Lightning — will all take their talents to the Elite Development Program League after dominating their competition in the Central Pennsylvania Youth Soccer League last spring.
While that trio of teams, which combined for a 22-2 record, will be changing leagues, the majority of USC’s squads will be staying put in the CPSYL. Two boys teams, the U12 Wolverines and U14 Spartans, move up in age group and division after winning their respective CPYSL divisions last spring. The same can be said for USC’s U10 Tornadoes, a girls squad.
Greencastle United Soccer Club has high hopes for its U10 Frederick and U12 Lorenz teams in the CPYSL this fall. Frederick, a boys team, will test its skills in a tougher division after going 8-0 last spring. Lorenz, a girls team, has also earned a promotion after going 6-2 last season.
The club season is also set to kick off in the United Recreational Soccer League, which includes area teams from Waynesboro, Hagerstown, Smithsburg and Fairfield. The URSL has not yet released its season schedule.
