State police to run DUI checkpoints across Franklin County in September

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg plan to conduct a series of DUI checkpoints in Franklin County throughout September, targeting roadways with a high number of impaired-driving arrests and crashes.

State police said the checkpoints will be set up on various county roads identified as problem areas for alcohol- and drug-related crashes and arrests. The enforcement effort is intended to reduce impaired driving and improve safety on local roads.

DUI checkpoints are legal in Pennsylvania when they follow standards established by the courts in Commonwealth v. Tarbert and Commonwealth v. Blouse. Those guidelines include advance scheduling of the checkpoints, public notice, and placement in areas with a documented history of crashes or DUI arrests.

Officials have not publicly listed the exact checkpoint locations.
