HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Jennifer Plummer, an eighth grade teacher at E. Russell Hicks Middle School in Hagerstown, has been appointed as the new director of youth ministry at First Christian Church. Congregation leaders said her passion for working with young people is sure to make a positive impact.
The Rev. Dr. James R. Brooks, the senior minister at the church, said Plummer’s deep connection to the church, which began in her childhood, when she was involved in youth ministry and attended church camp. He said he believes her understanding of the challenges young people face today will be incredibly beneficial.
Plummer is already dreaming big for the youth ministry, church leaders said. She envisions creating a space where teens can not only deepen their faith but also explore their interests and recognize their gifts in service to others.
“Our youth serve as a bridge between our present and our future,” she said, highlighting the important role they play in the church community.
Eager to connect with young people and their families, Plummer said she is ready to embark on her new journey. She aims to help participants discover their passions and talents while inspiring them to contribute to both the church and the broader community.
This appointment feels particularly meaningful because it combines Plummer’s educational experience with her personal ties to the church. Church leaders said they believe this connection will provide her with a strong foundation to help young members grow in their faith and develop leadership skills.
First Christian Church is located at 1345 Potomac Ave. Worship services are held every Sunday from 10 to 11 a.m., and children’s and youth Sunday school runs from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m.
