In Loving Memory of Richard “Scott” Davis, February 28, 1968 – July 11, 2026
Richard “Scott” Davis – known to everyone as Scott – finally answered the one set of orders he couldn’t argue with.
Scott proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, retiring after a career that included a combat tour in Iraq 2004-2005. He later retired as a government civilian employee, proving that once wasn’t enough when it came to serving. He loved his country and his time in the military, with the exception of recruiting duty.
Scott was diagnosed with Renal cell carcinoma in March 2025, and he fought with same courage he brought to everything else. Cancer may have won the battle, but it never took his sense of humor, his stubbornness, or the love he had for his family. Once he was diagnosed, he decided to live everyday. He took many bucket list trips in the last 16 months.
His greatest accomplishment wasn’t a medal, promotion, or retirement ceremony – it was his daughter Madisyn, whom he considered the best thing in his life. He was proud to welcome his son-in-law Braxton Roberson, into the family. Along with his grand dogs, Honey and Sadie.
If there was one title Scott loved even more than Soldier, it was Papa. His grandchildren, Maggie, Libby, Mia, Allison, Bubba, and Miles – were the absolute highlights of his life. They may not have been able to sneak things past their papa, but he would have given them the world.
Scott leaves behind his wife, Melissa, who wasn’t just his spouse – she was his angel, his rock, his caregiver, his partner in every sense of the word, and exactly the person he needed by his side. Through every challenge, she stood with him, and together they built a life full of love and memories.
He also leaves behind his longtime best friend, J.C. Mendyka, who has been the best brother-in-arms he could have had.
His great nephew, Hudson Carr, who wanted to help him catch the bad guys.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Faye Johnson Davis and Richard Lee Davis, whom we imagine greeted him with a fishing pole on the air boat.
Scott had a message in his phone that said – When the day comes that the earth stops turning, I will no longer be controlled by this disease. I will look back and proudly proclaim that my life was Happy and Complete. I Traveled, I Loved, I Pillaged, I Served and I Conquered. It will be a great honor to wait in the Great Hall of Valhalla with Odin, Thor, and Fryr. I will battle with axe, sword, or bare hands and fight til the end when Ragnarok comes.
Mission Complete. Rest easy, Soldier. We will take it from here.

To honor Scott’s legacy of service, memorial contributions may be made to organizations that provide support for military veterans.
