CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Franklin County officials are highlighting both cost savings and continued service access following the relocation of two key senior service operations.
County commissioners and administrative staff recently toured the newly consolidated offices of the Franklin County Area Agency on Aging and the Chambersburg Senior Activity Center, now operating at 2593 Philadelphia Ave.
The move brings the two entities under one roof, a shift county leaders say will reduce overhead while maintaining essential services for older residents.
Officials estimate the relocation will save approximately $5,000 per month, totaling about $60,000 annually in reduced facility expenses.
Those savings come at a critical time. State funding that supports aging programs has been significantly reduced for 2026, placing increased pressure on counties to maintain services with fewer resources.
By lowering operational costs, county leaders say they can offset some of the funding loss and continue offering programs that support seniors’ health, independence and social engagement.
During the tour, commissioners reviewed the updated space and discussed how the centralized location can improve efficiency and accessibility for residents who rely on aging services.
County officials emphasized that the consolidation is part of a broader effort to prioritize services for older adults while adapting to ongoing budget constraints.
The Franklin County Area Agency on Aging provides a range of programs, including care coordination, meal services and support resources, while the senior activity center offers opportunities for socialization and wellness programming.
Leaders said the new location positions both operations to better serve the community moving forward, despite financial challenges at the state level.
