WAYNESBORO, Pa — Five members of the Class of 2027 at Waynesboro Area Senior High School (WASHS) have earned Lenfest honors.
Lenfest Scholars Chloe Shacreaw, Romell Petit, Cole Peyton and Hezekiah DeLaney will receive:
- Personal advising and counseling throughout the college application process and while in college.
- Assistance with navigating the financial aid process.
- Up to $12,000 per year for four years of attendance at an accredited college or university in the United States. The exact amount of the award will be determined after review of financial aid packages from the scholar’s college.
- Access to funds to assist with special educational opportunities in college, such as internships and study abroad programs.
- Opportunities for lifelong friendships, networking, and mentorship with Lenfest Scholar alums.
Lenfest Finalist Leah Yost will receive a one-time $2,000 award to assist with college expenses.

Horatio Alger Scholar
Jaylyn Wentz, also a member of the Class of 2027, was recently named a recipient of the Horatio Alger Scholarship. More than 20,000 students across the country competed for this award, and Jaylyn was one of only 109 selected. Jaylyn will receive a $25,000 scholarship as well as enrollment in a college mentoring program. This scholarship is awarded to students who meet high academic standards, demonstrate integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, and are determined to succeed. “It’s quite an accomplishment to be selected among so many national candidates, and we’re very proud to have her represent WASHS,” said Pam Shoap, counselor for the Class of 2027.
