WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Evan Crider, tourism associate at the Franklin County Visitors Bureau, offered an overview of the county tourism industry and its local impact.
“Tourism is a big driver of the economy in our area, and it’s not just about history,” Crider said.
He said county tourism brought in $375 million last year. Franklin County is one of the few counties growing in Pennsylvania;
“A lot of people are working in our area,” he added. “We have good schools, and this has been a great retirement area.”
While the area’s history is a hook to attract tourists, the Visitors Bureau also works to inform visitors of the area’s shops and restaurants, recreational areas and scenic attractions.
Lodging taxes and grants fund much of the bureau’s operation, Crider said.
