Gallery 50 welcomes spring with “Here Comes the Sun”

“Sunflower Sunrise - Beech Springs Farm” by Jayne Shord, part of Gallery 50’s new exhibit “Here Comes the Sun.” The opening reception is Friday, May 8 from 5:30–8 p.m. Free admission, live music from Sons of Pitches, and new mural unveiling.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Gallery 50 hosts an opening reception for a new art exhibition, “Here Comes the Sun” on Friday, May 8 from 5:30–8 p.m. at 50 West Main Street in downtown Waynesboro, PA. The evening will showcase the new artwork and include free refreshments in addition to a new mural unveiling and live music from Sons of Pitches in the adjacent Music Makers space.

The 11 featured area artists are Jonathan Frazier, Robyn Jacobs, Sarah Maclay, Pat McCleary, Mary Moores, Judy Pyle, Jayne Shord, Anne St. John, Lindsay Tozier-School, Anita Williams, and Marti Yeager, who is also Gallery 50’s curator.

With “Here Comes the Sun,” Gallery 50 seeks to wave goodbye to a long winter, welcoming the warmer days of spring and summer. The exhibit’s artwork includes landscapes, flowers, sky scenes, and more that highlight the sun in multiple ways across a wide range of mediums: oil, acrylic, pastel, photography, watercolor, and enamel on copper.

The reception also features the unveiling of a new mural in Music Makers by artist Nigel Sussman. Based in Berkeley, CA, Sussman spent his formative years in Smithsburg, MD, and Waynesboro. His large-scale murals can be found across the country and are marked by a distinctive style using striking-but-simple color palettes, creating complex seek-and-find illustrations that feature fantasy architecture and/or imaginary machines. The detail is all done by hand with a lighthearted sense of humor that keeps you looking and smiling. For more information about Sussman, go to nigelsussman.com.

The gallery will also have new fine art and crafts by local artists available on the shelves: pottery, wood carvings, jewelry, books, and more.

Following the reception, the exhibit will be on display through August 1, 2026. Gallery 50 is open Fridays from 5–8 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. The exhibit will soon be available to browse and purchase on the gallery’s online shop at gallery50-aagw.square.site.

Gallery 50 is owned and operated by the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro and spotlights fine art and high-quality crafts from local artists and artisans.
