Shepherd splits two games in PSAC Tournament
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Boonsboro grad Haylee Hartman and Brenna Collis each homered to lift Shepherd University an 8-0 win over Clarion on Wednesday in its opening game of the PSAC East Tournament.
The Rams (24-22) dropped the second game fell 3-2 to Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the second game, but remains alive in the tournament. Shepherd returns to action Thursday to face the winner the California (Pa.)-Seton Hill game at 3 p.m.
Shepherd took a 4-0 lead in the first inning of the first game on third baseman Hailey Putnam’s RBI double, who later scored on a wild pitch to highlight the rally.
Collis belted a solo blast in the third to up Shepherd’s lead to 5-0.
Hartman smacked a two-run homer in the fourth to give the Rams a 7-0 lead.
Pitcher Madelayne Ruffner single to drive in the final run in the fifth, ending the game by the eight-run rule.
Putnam went 2-for-2 to lead the Rams.
Ruffner (15-7) fired the complete game shutout, allowing three hits while striking out 11.
Shepherd started strong against IUP by taking a 2-0 lead in the third as Colaw and Ruffner each drove in runs.
The Crimson Hawks answered back with three runs in the fourth, highlighted by Reagan Rand’s RBI triple before scoring on an error.
Collis went 2-for-3 to lead the Rams.
Ruffner, Hartman name to All-PSAC East team
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Junior Madelayne Ruffner was named pitcher of the year and outfielder Haylee Hartman, of Boonsboro, represent Shepherd University on the 2026 All-PSAC East team.
For Ruffner, a first-team choice, won the Pitcher of the Year honor for the second straight year. She posted 14 wins with a conference-leading 1.22 ERA, while striking out 261 batters. Her 28 runs allowed is the lowest total in the PSAC, as is her .162 batting-average-against.
Hartman, a second team selection, leads the Rams with a .387 batting average with a team-best 48 hits in 124 at-bats. She had 21 RBIs and scored 20 runs and driven in 21. She has added six doubles, a team-best two triples and four home runs. She paces the team with a .565 slugging percentage and has drawn a team-high 15 walks.
Shippensburg placed five players on the team
Third baseman Emilee Sullivan was selected to the first team, while catcher Leah Schwalm, first baseman Brie Wilmot, shortstop Caitlyn Martell and designated player Lindsey Haser were all part of the second team.
Kutztown’s Emily Henn was named the East’s athlete of the year, while Schwalm was tabbed as freshman of the year. Kutztown’s Judy Lawes was named coach of the year.
Shepherd ranked sixth in the region
INDIANAPOLIS — Shepherd University was ranked sixth in the latest 2026 NCAA Atlantic Region rankings released by the NCAA committee on Wednesday.
This is the final edition of the rankings before the announcement of the tournament field on Monday.
The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) has seven ranked teams. Shippensburg (1st), East Stroudsburg (2nd), Kutztown (3rd), Shepherd (6th), West Chester (7th), Lock Haven (8th), and Bloomsburg (10th) are all ranked.
Following the completion of the regular season and conference tournaments, eight teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the NCAA DII tournament. The Atlantic Region Championships will feature three automatic qualifiers – the tournament champions from the PSAC, MEC and CIAA – and five at-large selections.

Shepherd 3, Slippery Rock 0
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Pitcher Allen Miller fired a six-hit shutout and first baseman Nik Rubendall cracked a home run on Wednesday to lead Shepherd University to a 3-0 win over Slippery Rock in the first-round of the PSAC baseball tournament.
Shepherd (29-22) earned its first-ever win in two tries in the PSAC Tournament. … the Rams improve to 1-1 in PSAC Tournament play. The Rams return to action on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. against West Chester in the second round.
Miller (5-4) went nine innings, collecting six strikeouts while walking one in the complete game shutout victory.
Rubendall gave Shepherd the early 1-0 lead with a fourth-inning homer to right center field.
Outfielder Bodie Pullen tripled to right center and later scored when infielder Ryan Fluharty reached on an infield error for a 2-0 lead in the fifth.
Shepherd capped the scoring in the ninth when outfielder Ethan Jones walked and eventually scored on outfielder Sam Hefner’s single.
Pullen had a pair of hits to lead the Rams.
Player named to All-PSAC Team
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Shepherd University infielder Ryan Fluharty was selected to the first team of the 2026 All-PSAC East Baseball Team as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Fluharty leads the Rams with a .395 batting average, runs scored (48) and runs batted in (51) with a team-high 68 hits in 172 at-bats. Fluharty also paces the team in doubles (15) and is tied for the team lead in home runs with nine. He adds 12 of 17 in stolen bases.
Shippensburg fared well, placing four players on the first team and one on the second team
First baseman Thomas Cano-Piszel led Shippensburg’s contingent and was joined by shortstop Evan Shoffler, outfielder Ty Sherman and designated hitter Mason Morris. Outfielder AJ Wenrich earned a spot on the second team.
Bloomsburg’s Grant Russon was named athlete of the year, while West Chester’s Julian Costa was pitcher of the year and East Stroudsburg’s Zander Condeelis was the freshman of the year.
John Kochmansky was named the East’s coach of the year.

INDIANAPOLIS — Shepherd University earned eighth place in the latest 2026 NCAA Atlantic Region rankings released by the NCAA committee on Wednesday, the final poll the announcement of the NCAA DII tournament field on Sunday.
The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) has seven ranked teams.
