Dewease works out ‘gremlins,’ lands Top 10 finishes at Lincoln, BAPS Motor Speedways

There are plenty of words that could be used to describe the beginning of the 2026 auto racing season for Lance Dewease, but “gremlins” seems to check the most boxes.

Fayetteville’s Dewease has gotten off to promising starts in each of his first two 410 Sprints starts only for technical difficulties — “gremlins” — to spoil his night before feature’s end.

Dewease, a National Sprint Car Hall of Famer, and his team went back to the garage with his No. 8 racer and came back last weekend with Top 10 finishes at both Lincoln and BAPS Motor Speedways.

On Saturday at Lincoln, Dewease squeaked into the 30-lap feature by taking the fifth, and final, transfer spot from his heat race. Dewease drew the 17th position for the feature and blasted off from there, rising 11 spots to claim sixth place and earn the Hard Charger award. The race was won by Salfordville’s Freddie Rahmer, who surged to Victory Lane over Anthony Macri and Tyler Ross.

Dewease carried his momentum to BAPS on Sunday with another Top 10 finish. This time, he took second in his heat before moving from eighth to seventh in the 30-lap feature. Macri, from Dillsburg, won the race over Chase Dietz and Rahmer.

The Limited Late Models were also roaring at BAPS, with two local drivers posting Top 10 finishes: St. Thomas’ Michael Walls (4th) and Greencastle’s Scott Palmer (6th). Keith Walls, of St. Thomas, won his heat race.

Racing at Port Royal Speedway was canceled last weekend, but the venue will try again to open its season this weekend. Williams Grove Speedway is scheduled to begin its race schedule on Sunday.

Locally, Path Valley Speedway opens its season on April 4, while Hagerstown Speedway is slated to begin racing on April 11.

Below is a speedway-by-speedway, feature-by-feature look at races from last weekend that included drivers from the Local.News1 coverage area:
