It’s a new year and a new racing reason, and for Lance Dewease, it’s time for a new ride.
Now piloting the No. 8E car, the “Fayetteville Flyer” kicked off his season in the 410 Sprints at last weekend’s Ice Breaker Open, hosted by Lincoln Speedway. It was a day of mixed results for the 60-year-old National Sprint Car Hall of Famer. He zipped to victory in his heat race and was running strong in the early going of the 25-lap feature, before brake issues derailed the afternoon and led to a 21st-place finish.
York’s Chase Dietz nailed down the $6,000 win over Gettysburg’s Danny Dietrich and Salfordville’s Freddie Rahmer. Dietz started in the sixth position and took over the lead on the 18th lap. A late restart added some drama to the race, but Dietz expertly navigated through lapped traffic to secure the win.
Lincoln Speedway is scheduled to run another race program this weekend, with other speedways set to follow suit in the weeks to come.
