Letterkenny soldier has died after injury in training incident

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – A U.S. Army soldier has died from injuries sustained earlier today at Letterkenny Army Depot.

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of one of our own,” said Col. Caleb Lewis, Letterkenny Army Depot commander. “This soldier was a valued member of our team, and their service and sacrifice will not be forgotten. We offer our deepest condolences and full support to the family, friends, fellow soldiers and Letterkenny Army Depot employees affected by this profound loss.”

In accordance with Department of Defense policy, no further details will be released at this time to respect the privacy of the family during this difficult period and until next of kin notifications have been made.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., the soldier sustained injuries following a training incident while on duty. The soldier received immediate medical attention on-site and then transferred to WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital, for further evaluation and treatment.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division.

The depot is safe and secure, and there is no threat to the community.
