HS Girls Lacrosse Previews: After best season in program history, Trojans could be even better in 2026

The Chambersburg girls lacrosse squad took some big steps forward last spring, seven big steps to be exact.

Coach Shane Henry’s Trojans marched to a 7-11 record, and while that might not seem impressive to the average reader, it was Chambersburg’s best season in program history. And with plenty of talent projected to return, including Mid-Penn Commonwealth All-Stars Reagan Barrett and Brynn Sekel, the Trojans could be in for an even better campaign in 2026.

Two squads in the Local.News1 coverage area, North Hagerstown and Smithsburg, will be seeking improvement this spring after losing seasons.

We’ll take a closer look at these teams in today’s high school girls lacrosse previews. We will continue to unveil our spring previews in the days to come.

Below is a team-by-team preview for each of our area’s girls lacrosse squads:

Chambersburg Trojans

Coach: Shane Henry

Division: Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division

Last season: Chambersburg went 7-11 overall and 6-10 in the Commonwealth

Top projected returners: Brynn Sekel (So., Midfield), Reagan Barrett (Jr., Attack/Midfield), Mollie Yardley-Gontz (Jr., Attack/Midfield), Adele Henry (So., Midfield/Defense), Reese Heverly (So., Goalkeeper), Brooke Mickey (Jr., Defense)

Meet the Trojans: Chambersburg returns most of the team that posted a program-record seven wins last spring, and with only two seniors on the roster this season, coach Shane Henry’s girls could be on the rise for years to come … The Trojans, who netted 150 goals last season and allowed 230, bring back a couple of All-Commonwealth Third Teamers in junior Reagan Barrett and sophomore Brynn Sekel … Barrett, an attacker/midfielder, rolled up 52 goals and six assists last season, to go along with 16 ground balls and 38 caused turnovers … Midfielder Sekel had a monster ninth-grade season, totaling 40 goals, 15 assists, 42 ground balls, and 53 caused turnovers … Chambersburg will be captained this season by juniors Brooke Mickey, a defender, and Mollie Yardley-Gontz, an attacker/midfielder who is coming off a sesaon that saw her post 17 goals, 11 assists, 15 ground balls, and 14 caused turnovers … Adele Henry, a sophomore midfielder/defender, is back for the Trojans after she littered the stat sheet in 2025 with 16 goals, 11 assists, 23 ground balls, and 22 caused turnovers … Goalkeeper Reese Heverly is projected to return for her sophomore season after recording 163 saves last spring … The Trojans welcome 10 freshmen on to the squad this season, some of whom could patch up the holes left by the graduation of Mara Costolo, McKenna Myers, and Ellie Sarvis.

Opener: Monday, March 16, at home vs. Cumberland Valley

North Hagerstown Hubs

Coach: Rick Aleshire

Division: Washington County Public Schools

Last season: The Hubs went 0-11, with their campaign ending with a 17-4 loss to Frederick in the Class 3A West I Region Quarterfinals.

Top projected returners: Sadie Morton (Jr., Midfield), Sophie Lobley (Sr., Attack/Defense), Delaney Fuss (Jr.)

Meet the Hubs: North Hagerstown will be aiming for improvement after a winless 2025 campaign that saw the team score 60 goals and allow 213 … Look for the Hubs to rally behind two veterans: Junior Sadie Morton and senior Sophie Lobley … Morton, a midfielder, is coming off a season that saw her total 31 goals, 10 assists, 35 draw controls, 19 ground balls, and 12 caused turnovers … Lobley is a versatile player that can give North solid minutes on both offense and defense.

Opener: Tuesday, March 17, at Catoctin

Smithsburg Leopards

Coach: Allison Avey

Division: Washington County Public Schools

Last season: The Leopards posted a 1-11 record, with their season concluding with a 12-7 loss to Brunswick in the Class 1A West I Region Quarterfinals.

Top projected returners: Zoe Dixon (Jr., Mid), Payton Bloom (Sr.), Ava Cupaiuolo (Sr.), Lillian Seavolt (Sr.), Lillie Mentzer (Sr.), Rylee Maynard (Jr.), Addison Carraway (Jr.), Macy Orr (Sr.), Leah Hahn (Jr.), Emma Anderson (Sr.), Lacey Sinsebox

Meet the Leopards: Smithsburg will be looking to take steps forward this season after posting one win last spring … The Leopards scored 61 goals and allowed 176 last year, with their lone victory coming by an 18-3 score over North Hagerstown … Smithsburg coach Allison Avey and assistants Savannah Durning and Anne Fitts will be working with a group that includes four players who were honored by their team for their 2025 efforts: Zoe Dixon (MVP), Payton Bloom (Newcomer Award), Lacey Sinsebox (Unsung Hero Award), and Ava Cupaiuolo (Most Improved Player) … Several others who earned honors — Maren McFarland (Defensive MVP), Grace Ellis (Impact Award), Kendra Wilkinson (Most Dedicated),  and Jada Brown (The Rally Award) — have been lost to graduation … The Leopards will try to fill these holes in the lineup with a group of returners that includes Lillian Seavolt, Lillie Mentzer, Rylee Maynard, Addison Carraway, Macy Orr, Leah Hahan, and Emma Anderson … Newcomers for Smithsburg include Savannah Goff, Simone Williams, Kaelah Sine, Kendall Crutchfield, Natalie Fitts, Chloe Demmons, and Andrea Foued Jou.

Opener: Monday, March 23, at home vs. Frederick
