‘News is pretty dismal these days, Dargan Boy’

Bubba, my imaginary friend, came over to visit the other day, and I fried him up some Pon Haus and warmed him up a quiche in the oven.

“What’s a quiche Dargan Boy?” asked Bubba.

“It’s a bunch of eggs cooked with some magic ingredients and made like a pie,” I replied.  “It’s pretty good stuff, and goes well with your Pon haus and molasses.”

As Bubba filled his plate with a breakfast menu at noon, I poured him a cup of hot “eight o’clock” coffee.

As we sat at the kitchen table, I had the news on the little tv on the shelf in the corner wall.

“News these days is most dismal,” said Bubba.

“Did you see Dargan Boy, where all those billions of dollars were allegedly stolen by those hooligans in Minnesota.  Money earmarked for child care was apparently redirected by criminals over the years.”

“That Gov. Tim Walz fellow could have been the vice president of the United States had he been elected recently; now he’s leaving politics in disgrace after this term as governor.

“He for sure wasn’t watching the hen house!  The federal government too was complacent in sharing tax dollars without an effective reporting and accountability system.

“I suppose Walz’ Democratic supporters have grown sour on him after his failure to protect their tax dollars,” Bubba said between sips of his hot coffee.

“It’s our government at work Bubba. The left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing,” added Dargan Boy. “Ever wonder why your taxes are so high?”

“It’s those crazy politicians who don’t know what they are doing,” chimed Bubba.

“And did you see, Bubba, where that lady Nicole Good was killed by that ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agent in Minneapolis while she allegedly attempted to run him over with her vehicle?”

“I try not to stand in front of vehicles with aggressive drivers,” said Bubba, ” not exactly the safest place to be; I almost got hit with a tractor one time while moving a bale of hay.  Those ICE agents need better training and protestors maybe should write letters to the editor instead of driving cars in a protest.

“And how about that ‘fiasco’ and sneak attack by our military on that bad guy and leader of Argentina Nicolas Maduro and his wife.  They are being charged and held in New York for drug trafficking and narco-terrorism activity.

“President Trump hates narcotic shipments to the U.S.,” proclaimed Bubba. “He’s even blowing up boats that supposedly smuggle drugs to the American shores.”

“Wait a minute Bubba; some of that cholesterol has clogged your arteries,” said the Dargan Boy.’”The President recently gave a pardon to former Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernández for the trafficking of 400 tons of U.S.-bound cocaine through Honduras between 2004 and 2022 and related firearms offenses.

“This action seems a bit confusing to me,” suggested Dargan boy. “Four hundred tons of cocaine is a lot of illegal drugs.”

“For sure,” Bubba agreed, “but our President must have had a good reason to extend that pardon.”

“Tis a strange season for Presidential pardons,” said Dargan Boy.

In January 2025, then President Biden even announced that he was granting preemptive, “full and unconditional” pardons to a range of public servants, as well as to five named members of his immediate family.

Those presidential acts of issuing pardons as they leave and arrive in office are becoming quite controversial.

“Well, Dargan Boy, this has been one fine breakfast even though the news has been quite dismal.”

And maybe Tracey Morgan was correct when he said, “Bad news travels at the speed of light; good news travels like molasses.”

Can I have another piece of that Pon Haus Dargan Boy?  I like it with molasses.”
