With two combined victories this winter, the girls basketball squads at Fairfield and York Tech understand this sentiment all too well.
Both of these teams will be presented with a golden opportunity on Friday night when the Knights hit the road to take on the Spartans. The team that comes out on top will earn its first win of the YAIAA III season.

Meet the Knights: Coach Amy Hyder’s Fairfield squad will be aiming to snap a nine-game losing streak when it travels to York Tech on Friday … The Knights, who are scoring 23.6 points per game and allowing 47.5, are ranked No. 8 in the District 3-2A power rankings … Fairfield collected its lone win on Dec. 5, when it posted a 34-28 victory over Millersburg … Look for senior Olivia Sanders to pave the way for the offense. She is posting 9.3 points per game this season … Sanders will be flanked by a supporting cast that includes Aubree Eichenlaub (6.8 ppg), Marleigh Neiderer (5.6 ppg), Brooke Shriner (2.5 ppg), Journey Coons (1.6 ppg), and Trinity Coons (1.3 ppg) … Fairfield last defeated York Tech in the 2023-24 season, when it swept the Spartans by scores of 42-24 and 52-29.
Meet the Spartans: After an 0-9 start to the season, York Tech will be seeking its second win in three games when it takes the court against Fairfield … The Spartans recently nailed down their first win of the season on Jan. 3: A 28-18 triumph over Tulpehocken … Coach John Glass’ squad is averaging 27.8 points per game and allowing 49.0 points per night … York Tech is led by senior center Faith Atwater, who is averaging 7.7 points and 11.6 rebounds per game … Atwater is joined by a supporting class that includes Christian Dozier (5.3 ppg, 2.4 rpg), Hailey Anderson (4.1 ppg, 3.3 rpg), Skylar Grendell (3.6 ppg), Najila Massey (3.0 ppg), and Jazlyn Price (2.5 ppg) … The Spartans are ranked No. 30 in the latest batch of District 3-6A power rankings.
